Why people look for a free Sora alternative
Sora was the first AI video app many people tried, because it came with ChatGPT and felt like a toy rather than a professional tool. When it closed, those users did not want a film studio with a monthly fee. They wanted the same thing as before: open a page, add a picture, get a fun clip, share it.
Most of the big video tools are built for the opposite user. They ask you to sign up first, and they give you trial credits that run out after a few tries. That is fine if you plan to pay, but it is frustrating if you only want to animate a photo now and then.
TapToVideo was built for the casual case. The free tier is small but real: it does not need an email address, a free account adds one more video, and videos made with credits have no watermark.
How to make your first video in under two minutes
The tool at the top of this page is the full product, not a demo. Here is the whole process:
- Upload one photo (JPG, PNG or WebP). A clear subject with some space around it works best.
- Describe the motion in one sentence, for example "the woman turns her head and smiles, hair moving in the wind".
- Press the button and wait about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Watch the free preview; download it in HD with credits. Not happy? Change one detail in the prompt and try again.
What TapToVideo does differently from Sora
We want you to know the limits before you start, so here they are. Sora could create a scene from text alone; TapToVideo always starts from a photo. This is a deliberate choice: starting from your own picture gives you control over the person, the place and the look, and the AI only adds the movement. It also makes results far more predictable than text-only prompts.
Free videos are 4 seconds long at 480p, and they are silent. That length suits a looping clip, a story, a profile video or a reaction. If you need sound, you can add your own song in the browser on our music video pages, and the song never leaves your device.
The model behind the tool is Seedance 1.5 Pro by ByteDance, which we access through an AI service provider. TapToVideo is an independent site and is not connected to OpenAI or ByteDance.
Prompt tips if you are used to Sora
Sora prompts often described a full scene: the setting, the light, the characters and the action. With a photo as the start, the scene is already there, so your prompt should only describe what changes.
- Describe one main movement: "waves roll onto the beach" works better than five actions at once.
- Add a camera move if you like: "slow zoom in" or "the camera slowly circles the car".
- Keep faces natural: "blinks and smiles slightly" looks more real than "laughs loudly".
- Do not describe things that are not in the photo. The AI will try, but results are weaker.
Free videos and credits
Every visitor gets 1 free video at 480p and 4 seconds with no sign-up, and a free account adds 1 more. Free videos carry a small TapToVideo.com watermark in the bottom right corner, and videos made with credits have no watermark. A failed attempt does not count towards your free videos.
If you want more, create a free account and buy a credit pack. An extra 480p clip costs 20 credits, and an HD clip at 720p with 8 seconds costs 80 credits. The smallest pack is 1,000 credits for $9.90. It is a one-time payment, not a subscription, and credits last 12 months.
Your photos stay private
Your photo is sent to the AI model only to create your video. Uploaded photos are deleted after 24 hours, and we never publish your photos or videos. Unlike the Sora app, there is no public feed: nobody else sees what you make unless you share it yourself.
Every photo and every video goes through an automatic safety check. Nudity, sexual content and photos of real people without their consent are not allowed.
